SPECIES: A favorite throughout Europe and Asia, Northern White Oak is a truly classic species. Revered for its neutral brown to tan color tones and ability to accept a variety of stains and finishes, this species offers a warmth and classic look desired by artisans for centuries. Typically used in the manufacturing of high end furniture, wine and whisky barrel construction and exposed timber frame construction it is durable, beautiful and timeless as a hardwood flooring species.
GRADE: Select & Better - A floor that is uniform in color with only slight variations in natural color provided by the forest. Predominately free of character, with a long average length, Select & Better creates a subtle backdrop for any style or taste.
RIFT & QUARTERED: Wood with predominantly straight grain patterns that lends itself well to design aspects. Traditionally Rift & Quartered lumber has been used in the manufacturing of mission style furniture, known for its high quality and timeless appearance. Dramatic flecking is present in Red & White Oak which produces a subtle luminescent quality across the face of the individual pieces in different lighting conditions. Rift & Quartered is some of the most stable type of flooring and is more resistant to moisture penetration. Because the manufacturing process is slower and results in lower yields of the logs with more labor intensive processes, the cost is higher to produce and quantities are more limited than plain sawn products.
